Breastfeeding Blogs to Follow

If you are here, I’m going to assume you are a blog reader. In continuation of our breastfeeding celebration, here is a list of blogs about breastfeeding you might enjoy.

Making this list was harder than I thought.  I tried to avoid the blogs that sometimes talk about breastfeeding, but also talk about parenting, cooking, pregnancy and other issues of interest to breastfeeding families. I tried to collect blogs of international interest. I also tried to be aware of the change in blogs over the years.  Several blogs that I used to enjoy only sporadically post new content, or seem to only post reviews and contests.  In the end I camp up with a list of unique, high-value blogs to recommend.

I wish the list were longer.  What would you add to it, and why?

Breastfeeding Medicine – From the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine, this blog provides updates and advice to health care professionals working with breastfeeding families.

Lactation Matters – This is the official blog for the International Lactation Consultant Association, and therefore talks about the business of being a lactation consultant as well as information on current issues to those whose business is lactation support.

Breastfeeding4Health – This blog is published by the Carolina Global Breastfeeding Institute at the Billings School of Global Public Health at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, so as you can guess provides a public health view of breastfeeding news and issues.

Australian Breastfeeding Association – The ABA publishes a blog that answers common breastfeeding questions in easy to read language. These articles are easy to share with families and through social media.

Mammals Suck…Milk! – Written by an evolutionary biologist studying the effects of mother’s milk on infant development in rhesus monkeys.  The blog is educational, insightful and gives a glimpse into the world of research.

Best for Babes – The organization works to change the cultural perception of breastfeeding, and they offer six differently themed blogs in the pursuit of that goal.  This is where you will find the popular Booby Traps posts by Tanya Lieberman, as well as all the news about celebrities supporting breastfeeding. These posts are great conversation starters.

Kelly Mom –  Kelly mom has been giving breastfeeding advice on-line longer than Birthing Naturally has been encouraging women to be a part of the decision making for labor. The website itself converted to a blog format a few years ago, but remains an easy-to-navigate source of information for families.
