How Can You Help?

The need is so great, it can only be filled through the efforts of many. Your gift of money, supplies or prayer will help ensure the volunteers are adequately equipped to provide care.

Birth Kits

The estimated cost of a birth kit is minimal. Birth kits contain just the supplies necessary to safely care for one mother and baby. Materials are kept in a zipper style plastic bag until ready for use to keep them clean. Birth Kits generally contain:

  • One or two pairs of clean gloves
  • one sterilized razor blade
  • some form of soap or cleanser
  • two or three pieces of sterilized string or other tool to clamp the cord

In addition, birth kits may contain:

  • sterile gauze pads - for cleaning mother after birth
  • reusable feminine hygiene pads - to prevent the use of old dirty rags
  • plastic sheeting- to provide a clean place for birth
  • bulb suctions

Supplies

In addition to the birth kits, we are also collecting supplies the midwives can use in the care of mothers and babies. These supplies include:

  • prenatal vitamins
  • thermometers
  • stethoscopes
  • fetoscopes
  • blood pressure cuffs
  • flashlights with batteries
  • hanging scales
  • watch with a second hand
  • soft tape measures - like a seamstress would use

How to Donate

You can donate in several ways.

  • Your group can gather the necessary supplies for birth kits, put the birth kits together. You can then ship them straight to our contact in Rwanda.
  • Your group can gather supplies and send them to Birthing Naturally to be combined with other supplies, arranged in kits and shipped to our contact.
  • Your group can raise funds to send to Birthing Naturally to purchase needed materials or cover costs of shipping supplies.

Please contact Jennifer Vanderlaan for more information or to arrange your gift.
