Labor Practice | Waking up to contractions

You wake up in the middle of the night because you are having contractions that are too strong to sleep through. Will you:

Use Heat to Lessen the Pain

Applying heat to a source of pain can be effective in reducing the pain for short periods of time. A warm washcloth or a warm water bottle gently placed on your body calms down your muscles and relives contractions as well as easing any pain you might have.

Ask for a Massage

Many women find the pressure and rubbing of massage during labor to be an effective method to lessen the pain felt.

Take a Warm Bath

The warm water can help lessen discomfort and help you relax. A warm bath will also ease pain and calm muscles the same way a warm washcloth or a warm water bottle does.
