I want to thank you to both the audience of this website and the community of families and midwives who have been supportive of my ongoing educational pursuits. I am thrilled to share that in June I defended my dissertation and in July all paperwork was accepted! In August I will officially be Jennifer Vanderlaan, Ph.D., MPH, RN, CNM.
As many of you know, this is not where I saw myself when I began this journey in 2009. I have so much to tell you about what I’ve learned along the way, how the direction of my education expanded, and where I plan to go next. Before I feel free to share, I feel I need to address the issues I still have with the website as a WordPress Blog. The biggest issue is making the directory a bit more user-friendly; a task I spent several hours doing incorrectly today. I knew getting behind on the website would be my “normal” when I went back to school, but I didn’t think about what would happen when technology progressed beyond my capabilities. So now, in the midst of transitioning from a student to faculty, I also need to learn new web tools. If you have any suggestions for plug-ins that are easy to learn and could better organize the directory, please let me know.
In the mean time, I will be making sure all the content has been transferred to WordPress correctly (and update the research on some pages), and I will be at two conferences this fall. In October I’ll be at the Normal Birth Conference. In November, my first presentation as Dr. Vanderlaan will be at the New Jersey Symposium for Physiologic Birth. This is an exciting event because, in addition to the normal program for midwives, there will be a day for families.
